Outreach & Education Internship

Showagon 2017 Summer Intern

Theatre Memphis is excited to announce a 5 week paid performance and educational internship for college Theatre students seeking a fun and unique way to gain college internship credit as a part of ShoWagon of Theatre Memphis!

Who: Interested applicants should be college students, preferably seeking a degree in theatre, who need a college internship credit. Applicants must have a passion for performing with and for children, as well as teaching and leading by example. Those with specific interest in educational theatre will be highly considered. Applicants must be prompt, dependable, and willing to take on any performance, teaching, or technical challenge that may come their way.

What: Interns will spend 5 weeks aiding the Department of Outreach and Education in their production of Dandelions Wishes: A Cinderella Story. They will perform a condensed version of the show as a radio play in collaboration with Chatterbox Audio Theatre that will be recorded for the Chatterbox archives, as well as toured to several libraries in the Memphis Public Library System. Interns will also help facilitate all workshop rehearsals for the full production with students ages 6-18. Workshop duties will include: helping lead groups of students in various warm ups, crafts, activities, and daily rehearsals. Interns will also perform small roles in the full production alongside the students in the workshop, as well as aid with backstage organization and technical needs. Interns will help with the creation and construction of the costumes, props, and set for the production, as well as help with the creation and distribution of promotional materials.

When: June 12th- July 15th. Call times and end times will vary each day, but in general, interns must be available for the full days Monday-Friday as well as the final Saturday. 3 evenings will need to be set aside for recording sessions with Chatterbox Audio Theatre and will be determined at the convenience of the group. Interns will receive lunch breaks, as well as abbreviated schedules whenever possible upon completion of daily tasks.

Where: All rehearsals, workshops, and performances will be at Theatre Memphis. Touring productions will be held at several different libraries in and around the Memphis area. Recording sessions will be held at the Chatterbox recording facility in Memphis.

All interns will receive a weekly stipend.

All interested applicants must submit a headshot and resume as well as letter of intent stating their interest that includes their qualifications and details why they think they’d be a good match for this internship. All material must be submitted to showagon@theatrememphis.org by April 7. After application information is received, an audition time will be set for applicants to come in for an audition interview. If the applicant is unable to attend the audition because of the distance of their school, they may still submit materials for consideration and an alternative interview process can be discussed.
