Opportunities for Homeschooled Students / Families

Ongoing Workweek Volunteer Activities:
In the past we’ve had high school aged homeschoolers participate and excel in these fields. Sometimes they are also able to gain credit hours for certain classes. The participation schedule for these opportuities is flexible, but regular attendance (averaging 2-6 hours per week) Monday - Friday, 9:30 AM - 5 PM for an ongoing period of time is expected.
The Lighting Assistant helps the Lighting Designer rig (prep, hang, focus, gel) the instruments and lighting inventory. Please see more details at Lighting Assistant.
The Scenery and Props Construction volunteers will help construct the set and props, offering assistance in the following areas: woodwork, welding, painting, crafts and light sewing. Please see more details at Scenery/Props Construction.
Helps construct costumes. Help needed in any of these areas: machine sewing, hand stitching, alterations, mending, crafting. Please see more details at Costume Construction.
Time Specific Workweek Volunteer Activities: A Christmas Carol Cast/Crew
In the past we’ve had elementary through high school aged homeschoolers participate in this cast or crew for A Christmas Carol. (The information here pertains specifically to our truncated version of A Christmas Carol, which perfroms weekday mornings during the month of December.) This is often a good fit for families who want to volunteer together. Cast and crew are awarded a small stipend for their participation. Cast is selected during an audition process. Crew is selected during an application/interview process.
A Memphis Family Holiday Tradition. Miserly Ebenezer Scrooge is approached by the ghostly vision of his former business partner, Jacob Marley, who warns him of an upcoming spiritual journey. An eye-opening exploration leads to happiness and enlightenment, not to mention song, dance and holiday cheer.
Ages Needed: Participants age 9+ are welcome to audition for the 20 roles available in A Christams Carol.
Attendance: It is preferred that all cast members attend all rehearsals. A few conflicts with the regular rehearsal schedule may be accepted. It is manditory that all cast members attend all technical rehearsals and perfromances. Regular rehearsals will be 2-4 days a week, 2-3 hours per day in the morning or afternoon, starting early October. Closer to the opening performance, actors may be called for weekend and/ or evening rehearsals 5-6 days per week, 3-6 hours per day. Weekday school matinee performances run late November – mid (2 performances per day, Mon – Fri, will a call period of 8:45 AM– 1 PM each day.) Ages Accepted: Participants age 15+ are welcome to apply for the 2-4 crew positions needed for A Christams Carol.
Attendance: It is manditory that all crew members attend all technical rehearsals and perfromances. Tech rehearsals will be 5-6 days per week, for 3-6 hours, beginning mid-November. (Rehearsal will be morning or afternoon on weekdays and weeeknds. Weekday school matinee performances run late-November to mid-December (2 performances per day, Mon – Fri, will a call period of 8:45 AM– 1 PM each day.)
