Appropriate follows the estranged adult Lafayette siblings (Toni, Bo, Franz) as they return to their crumbling Arkansas plantation to settle their recently deceased, racist patriarch’s estate, uncovering a shocking photo album of lynchings and other disturbing mementos that expose their family’s deep-seated, systemic racism and hidden histories, forcing uncomfortable confrontations about their legacy and complicity in America’s racial sins, all while navigating personal resentments and secrets

About the moderator

Dr. Niambi Webster

Niambi D. Webster is a touring music dance theatre artist. She founded, produced and directed for ten years, The Langston Hughes Company of Players. The ensemble toured all of the country performing such plays as: “Jonnas,” “For Colored Girls,” “Ma Raineys Black Bottom,” and performed African American History programs throughout the State of Iowa. She received Artist of the year from The State of Iowa Arts Council. Niambi taught multicultural/ethnic education for 28 years on the collegiate level and 23 years teaching theatre,  English, speech and dance in high schools.

She has been  on the stages of Hattiloo, Playhouse on the Square, Theatre Memphis, Evergreen, Bluff City, and The Civic Center (where she directed The Juneteenth Story” for three years).

All Read to Relate Meetings are free to attend. 

Reading the scripts before the event is encouraged but not required. Scripts are available for check-out through the box office with a $10 cash deposit that will be returned to you at the end of your rental.

If transportation to Theatre Memphis or the deposit is a hardship for you please note that in the registration form and we will be in touch about accommodations.

Both the Lohrey Theatre and the Next Stage Theatre are wheelchair accessible with a handicapped accessible restroom on the same level as the main lobby to both venues. The Lohrey Theatre also provides hearing assisted equipment to any who may require or request it, at no charge.
