Description

Students pursuing B.F.A. or M.F.A. degrees in Theatre at the University of Memphis are eligible to apply for the annual Theatre Memphis fellowship in play direction or stage management. If no suitable candidate is found from these areas, applicants from other theatre production disciplines may be considered. Students from any theatre production discipline are encouraged to apply.Candidates must remain enrolled at the University of Memphis for the full duration of the internship.

Duties

Specific duties will be determined based on the student’s skills and the theatre’s needs.  Assignments may include some of the following: Stage Management, Assistant Stage Management, Production Assistance, Scenery/Prop Assistance, Lighting Assistance, Sound Assistance, Costume Assistance, Education Assistance (in performance OR tech and design, depending on the focus of the applicant).

Typical work requirements:

180 hours

Typical hours fall within Monday – Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM OR nights and weekends for stage managers.

Hours may be flexible, depending on theatre needs and the student’s general availability.

Typical stipend

$2700 paid in installments by the University of Memphis.

Application

Procedures are released annually to all current UofM Department of Theatre & Dance students in March, with applications being due in April.

  1. Theatre resume with contact information for 3 references.
  2. Digital Theatre Portfolio or link to the student’s professional website (if applicable)
  3. Application Form, including a 200-400 word statement describing
    1. Why you are applying for the Ballew Fellowship.
    2. What kind of internship experience are you hoping to have?
    3. In which discipline(s) would you like to exercise your talents and why? – Please refer to the “Duties” section of the internship notice.
    4. What do you hope to receive from an internship at Theatre Memphis?
    5. What benefits are you hoping to bring Theatre Memphis through an internship?

Lohrey Theatre

Seats up to 411

Both the Lohrey Theatre and the Next Stage Theatre are wheelchair accessible with a handicapped accessible restroom on the same level as the main lobby to both venues. The Lohrey Theatre also provides hearing assisted equipment to any who may require or request it, at no charge.
