Theatre Memphis, a nationally recognized community theatre in the heart of Memphis, is
looking to add House Managers to our front of house staff. The House Manager oversees the
smooth operations of the theatre before, during, and after a performance, while also being able to
respond quickly and efficiently to patron questions, issues, and concerns. A successful candidate
should be outgoing with a natural talent for customer service and a strong attention to detail.
House Manager (HM) duties include:
Arrive 1 hour prior to the performance start time and begin pre-show setup, which
includes, but is not limited to:
o Unlocking the front doors, checking restrooms to ensure they are clean and fully
stocked, making sure carpet is vacuumed (mainly on Saturday and Sunday), re-
stocking programs, coordinate with the Box Office on Will Call tickets and
wheelchairs/handicap accessible accommodations, and coordinate with the Stage
Manager on any important show information (i.e. actors in the aisles, late seating,
Next Stage curtain placement)
Meet with Ushers at least 35 minutes before curtain to provide show and theatre
information and assign duties (i.e. passing out programs, assisting patrons with finding
their seats).
o The HM is the mediator between the Ushers, patrons, and the Box Office if there
are seating issues.
During the show, the HM ensures that the Lobby is secure, locks the doors, seats
latecomers (if applicable), is present to handle any issues that may occur in the house (i.e.
cell phone use, photography/recording, medical emergency), and cleans and restocks the
restrooms.
After the show, the HM ensures that the theatre is clean of all debris and programs,
restocks and cleans restrooms, turns of the Lobby lights, and ensures all doors are secured
and locked.
The HM completes a report at the end of the performance to relay any issues during the
show, bar/concessions needs, facility and maintenance issues, etc.
The HM should be knowledgeable of all Theatre Memphis emergency procedures should
an issue arise, which includes, but is not limited to severe weather, active shooter, power
outage, etc.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED.
Previous experience working in customer service and a fast-paced environment preferred.
Reliable transportation is a must.
